Recent Xanga Discrimination Against ReveLife
12-5-09 ADDENDUM: It’s now been over 4 months since the last ReveLife front page post, making this particular post of mine all the more relevant to the situation. WHAT are the reasons behind this discrimination? WHO made that decision, and why is nothing being said about it? I submitted this particular post to ReveLife to see if they DARE answer the pertinent questions posted here… or if they are even willing to address the issue. Only they can truthfully say why, so come on guys, come clean. Why are ReveLife posts no longer Front-Page Worthy?
I have noticed a new trend on Xanga…. as in Xanga proper, not it’s millions of users. And I am curious foremost on what the logic to this new trend was, and secondly why it was done without a word said to anyone. You see, Xanga has stopped making ReveLife posts Front Page worthy.
For 4 weeks now, not one ReveLife post has made it to the Front Page. Not One. I have carefully watched to see if maybe this might be a random occurance, maybe all the other Xanga-derivative sites really did have things more note-worthy to make commentary upon. Maybe, just maybe, Christians had nothing to say. Well, to be honest, what I have seen on Xanga Front page of late has been not even worth my time to read. ReveLife — well, it’s not much better.
So maybe this really is the heart of the matter.
Or maybe, Christians got fed up with defending their faith against the hoards of pagans and collectively petitioned to be “Seperated” in more than our common sense of the word. I would find this sad, if it were true, for that means we do not feel our faith is worth defining, defending, or declaring. We would much rather sit around patting ourselves on the back for our “Get out of Hell – Free” card, than spend it trying to help others obtain that same option. There is a point where “Preaching to the Choir” becomes useless, for your faith at that point only weakens, not strengthens.
Have you ever wondered what made David a great king? And Why he fell? He was a great king because he faced adversity and learned to trust God for answers. He Fell because he decided he needed a break from doing what he was supposed to. Read it, it’s there, 2 Samuel 11:1 Kings go off to war, but David decided it was break time —- lesson here; we’re not called to seek earthly rest from our heavenly duties
My point is this, if the Christians of ReveLife petitioned for and end to the flame-wars — we’ve sunk to a new low in Christianity and are allowing the Enemy to conquer over us. The church no longer stands against the gates of hell — we’d much rather sing simple(minded) songs of praise and not have to come up with reasons for the hope that is within us.
Maybe your next argument to me would be about casting pearls before swine. Maybe, you might say to me, There’s no point in continuing the endless debates and pointless arguments in trying to make comments to comments to comments cause it doesn’t get anywhere. Well, you have a marginal point there. We’re not called to debate / argue. I made that a point of a previous post. What we are called to do, though, is to present the truth, in love. And where obstacles arrive, where arguments come at us as raging wars — we are called to put on the mind of Christ, put on the shield of faith, take up the Word of God and speak the truth clearly — even if it leads to our deaths. Pearls before swine — try telling that to someone who was burned at the stake for standing firm upon the truth, and the witness they became to others for having done so. Somehow, this point seems radically moot in light of the calling to stand firm.
Maybe this wasn’t the case. Maybe there was some other reason I haven’t thought of. I am not sure, because I don’t know why those who run Xanga & ReveLife did what they did. All I can say is that it has me perplexed. When Mancouch, HardestLevel, TripCrazed, and the whole host of other Xanga derivative sites have a voice lately — and ReveLife doesn’t — I’m left to wonder why…. and hope that we, ourselves, are not the cause.
Like this post, share it with others — get the ball rolling — let’s see if Xanga has an answer to present for the matter. If enough people click “Recommend” maybe they will have to.

i’m hoping that it’s the first option, that there just hasn’t been anything to read. but it might not be.
Xanga tends not to feature content with even an iota of redeeming value (there are exceptions)…just mindless randomness or controversy. Revelife posts haven’t been great lately, but they haven’t been that low or very controversial…
as far as giving up on the debates…Love was not being shown in those and no one was getting anything beneficial from it, so to what end are they for?
i haven’t noticed that, but i don’t check out the front page much.
as for revellife, i stopped subbing to it awhile back, because i got tired of christians ripping each other’s hair out verbally over things that, are, frankly, common sense scripturally.
perhaps when we can choose to extend grace to each other …towards what we have in common, we’ll have something to genuniely debate about.
i also agree with the viewpoints above… you yourself say here they haven’t had anything truly great posted lately.
“Everyone who Desires to live a Godly Life in Christ Jesus
SHALL BE PERSECUTED. (2 Tim 3:12) So stop whining about it!”
By whining here, you’re doing a good job of being ironic.
@huginn - Whose to say I’m whining? Why can’t I be pointing out an obvious which others seemed to have missed? As Ehrin above points out, I bluntly stated that ReveLife posts haven’t had much content lately — that’s why I refused to move in the first place, (Post linked here) cause I knew that it would be pointless.
Nevertheless, you seem to lack the capacity for abstract thought, so let me be blunt. My concern is not that there haven’t been posts from ReveLife on the front page, but WHY haven’t there been posts on the front page. The reasons behind the matter are more important than the matter itself. Why, you might wonder? Well, because if the reasons are from the Xanga-crew it shows discrimination. If the Reasons are from the ReveLife writers (re: not the site managers, but the posters themselves) then it shows how low Christianity has stooped that they feel tired of having to defend themselves. Reasons are everything.
Pure, Plain & Simply put.
I hope that helped clear things up for you.
What other possibilities do you see outside of 1) Revelifers opting out of flame-wars and thus front page showings and 2) Xanga discrimination against Christian blogging?
Personally, I doubt the wider Xanga audience is interested in a lot of the ReveLife posts. Front page material tends to be a certain depth and doesn’t go outside a pretty well framed box of “money, sex, relationships, humor, despair.” Theology isn’t a trending topic on Twitter and it doesn’t make great Newspaper headlines or TV shows. I wouldn’t expect Revelife to consistently be on the front page just as I don’t expect my posts to consistently be on the top blogs.
How do I suggest this post to Xanga? I’m looking at the buttons here.. I’m guessing it’s not a rec button.
